Updates to the Direct Contract Model in comparison to the new ACO REACH program

CMS announced recently that the Direct Contracting program will be converted into the REACH ACO Model effective 1/1/23. This model will be substantively similar to Direct Contracting but will have some different features (rewards for managing underserved populations, different governance threshold requirements, and smaller quality withholds).

We are pleased with this update for the following reasons:

  • Our doctors are the physicians that this new program is designed for.

  • The program better rewards management of cost of care, and adds rewards for addressing health equity.

  • The program is designed to reduce participation by insurance companies and other entities on CMMI’s watch list.

  • Nothing will change for providers in 2022 except repapering for ACO REACH 2023
